The Town Hall continues is centennial season celebration in a collaboration with Peoples’ Symphony Concerts (PSC) – NYC’s oldest concert series offering some of the most affordable ticket prices for students, families, and others on a limited budget – to honor the best in classical music through the Salomon Series. Beginning on January 23, six different one-performance-only programs will be presented both in person and virtually on select Sunday afternoons through May 8, 2022, beginning at 2 pm.
“We are thrilled to partner with Peoples’ Symphony Concerts to present the Salomon Series at The Town Hall,” said Artistic Director Melay Araya. “For classical music fans or as an introduction to this beautiful music genre, this collaboration will allow audience to attend concerts individually or as part of the six-concert series ticket at very reasonable prices. Our goal is to make classical music accessible to everyone.”
The Dover Quartet, the first Resident Ensemble in the history of Peoples’ Symphony Concerts, launches the series on January 23, with the Best of Beethoven. Part of their three-season exploration of The Complete Beethoven String Quartet Cycle, the program, performed by members Joel Link and Bryan Lee on violin, Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt on viola, and Camden Shaw on cello, features Quartet in F major, Op. 18, No. 1; Quartet in A major, Op. 18, No. 5; and Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 74. The Philadelphia-based quartet appears by arrangement with the Curtis Institute of Music, where all four serve on the faculty and, collectively, as the Penelope P. Watkins Ensemble in Residence.

February 27: Vocal Treasure – Originally scheduled for the Spring of 2020, but postponed due to the pandemic, the concert of Schubert’s incomparable song cycle Die Winterreise for tenor and piano will include a brief discussion of Schubert’s legendary composition with the text of twenty-four poems by Wilheim Mueller. Remarkably, what is still considered the ultimate song cycle was written by a composer and poet who only lived to the ages of 31 and 33, respectively. Because of exclusivity issues, the artists will be announced at a later date.
March 20: Guitar Legends – Montenegro native and Deutsche Grammophon star Miloš, who received his training at London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Music, plays a Segovia tribute to help celebrate The Town Hall’s tradition of great guitar concerts. The performance will feature Sor, Mozart Variations; Bach, Chaconne; Villa Lobos, Preludes 1, 3, and 5; Tárrega, Lagrima; and Albéniz, Asturias, Granada, and Sevilla.
April 10: Chamber Masterwork – PSC Resident Artist from 2020-23, pianist Shai Wosner and friends Alexi Kenney (violin), Hsin-Yun Huang (viola), Sterling Eliott (cello), and Timothy Cobb (double bass) will play Brahms’ Piano Trio in C Minor Op. 101; Rebecca Clarke’s Morpheus; Jessie Montgomery’s Peace (written during the COVID-19 lockdown); and Schubert’s great Trout Quintet (Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667).
May 1: Orchestral Gems– Founded by colleagues and friends from leading conservatories and music festivals across the country in 2001, East Coast Chamber Orchestra (ECCO) – a democratically‐run self-conducted collective that thrives on the pure joy and camaraderie of classical music-making – will perform a program TBA.
May 8: Prima Pianist – French-born Lise de la Salle, who came to international attention at the age of sixteen in 2005, will play piano selections from her hit recording When Do We Dance, released in June. The concert will include works by French, Slavic, Spanish, and American composers.
