Synetic Theater announces 2023/24 season

Paata Tsikurishvili directs a new adaptation of 'The Tell-Tale Heart,' audience favorite 'Romeo & Juliet' returns, and more.

Synetic Theater announces its 2023/24 season featuring five mainstage productions, including a new, thrilling adaptation of The Tell-Tale Heart and the return of fan favorite Romeo & Juliet. Season subscriptions are on sale now, as well as single tickets to Cyrano de Bergerac, at www.synetictheater.org.

“As we unveil Synetic’s 2023/24 season, I am filled with excitement and anticipation for what’s to come,” remarked Synetic co-founder and Artistic Director Paata Tsikurishvili. “I am particularly eager to return to my director’s chair and lead us into a season that perfectly balances the innovative, boundary-pushing work we are known for with beloved, classic Synetic productions.”

Synetic Theater re-envisions Edgar Allan Poe’s chilling story, The Tell-Tale Heart, in a thought-provoking adaptation that marks co-founder Paata Tsikurishvili’s return to the director’s chair. With haunting imagery and a touch of macabre humor, the new production invites the audience to question: “Who is the crazy one?” as an eccentric old man and his caretaker spiral into madness and murder.

The 2023/24 season also features the return of Synetic’s acclaimed Romeo & Juliet. Stripped of dialogue, this original “Silent Shakespeare” production is set against the whirring gears of a giant clock, where two lovers race against time and fate in a passionate and lyrical piece. Hailed as a “highly charged, atmospheric” and “extraordinary vision of wonder and passion” (BroadwayWorld), the Bard’s ultimate tale of love and tragedy is expressed through Synetic’s imaginative design elements and innovative storytelling.

Synetic’s enchanting holiday show, Snow Maiden, returns this season after a successful premiere last year, warming hearts with the story of a lonely boy’s wish for a friend in the cold winter. And, based on Aleksandr Pushkin’s fable, The Tale of the Fisherman and the Golden Fish presents a cautionary tale of love and greed, brought to life through poetic pantomime. Throughout the holiday season, the two family-friendly productions will play in repertory, providing audiences with a season full of whimsical stories and heartwarming tales.

In addition to its mainstage professional productions, Synetic Theater will continue to offer its award-winning outreach and engagement programs for young people, including the 9-month long pre-professional Teen Company program, student matinees, and winter break, spring break, and summer break camps.
