Constellation Theatre Company announces final production at Source Theatre

The multi-award-winning theater company will continue producing theater and announce its new locations at a later date.

Constellation Theatre Company announces that its spring production of Head Over Heels, opening Monday, May 5, will be its final production at the Source Theatre, located at 1835 14th Street NW.

CulturalDC, the landlord of the Source Theatre, notified Constellation Theatre that the building was for sale in August 2024 with the intention of selling to another nonprofit arts organization. After 18 years of renting theater and office space at Source, Constellation was eager to purchase the building and preserve its nearly 50-year legacy as a cornerstone of the DC theater community.

Backed by dedicated supporters including over 1500 signers of an open letter to CulturalDC from TheatreWashington, Constellation entered into negotiations, raised significant funds, and submitted a fair market-value offer. Despite Constellation’s multiple offers, CulturalDC has decided not to sell the building to Constellation.

As this chapter comes to a close, Constellation reflects with pride on the 53 productions it has staged at Source. More than one thousand collaborators and tens of thousands of patrons have contributed to the magic that unfolded in the space. The company extends its heartfelt gratitude to the individuals, government entities, and foundations that made this work possible.

Constellation Theatre Company is excited to embrace a bold new future, filled with artistic exploration and adventure. In the meantime, the company invites the community to join in a monthlong celebration with Head Over Heels — a tribute to love, individuality, and joy.
