Mosaic Theater Company to present DC premiere of ‘Dodi & Diana’

Set during the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s and Dodi Fayed’s deaths, Kareem Fahmy's play delves into the marriage of an imaginary couple, while drawing parallels to the real-life relationship between Diana and Dodi.

Mosaic Theater Company presents the DC premiere of Dodi & Diana, a taut and thrilling new play that explores questions of identity, sexuality and freedom. Set during the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s and Dodi Fayed’s deaths, the play delves into the marriage of an imaginary couple, while drawing parallels to the real-life relationship between Diana and Dodi. Written by Kareem Fahmy and directed by Reginald L. Douglas, performances run September 4–October 5, 2025, at the Atlas Performing Arts Center.

“I am so honored to welcome my dear friend and colleague Kareem Fahmy to Mosaic, building on our long relationship of collaboration and his exciting national career as a playwright, director, and theater industry changemaker,” said Director Reginald L. Douglas. “Dodi & Diana is intrinsically compelling — giving us an intimate look at a marriage suffering from intense pressure in the public spotlight. With bold performances from Jake Loewenthal and Dina Soltan and the delightful whimsy of theatrical magic, this new play dares to ask who we become when the world is watching — and when it isn’t. It’s a thrilling, seductive meditation on identity, fate, fame, and the freedom to tell your own story.”

“The gifted Reg Douglas directed a brilliant production of my play American Fast for Theater Alliance earlier this year, and it’s a thrill to be returning to Washington, DC for our second collaboration,” said playwright Kareem Fahmy. “Dodi & Diana explores the most intimate aspect of marriage and love and asks what parts of ourselves we must give up to be in a committed relationship. I was inspired to write the play when thinking about how the story of Dodi Fayed — Princess Diana’s Egyptian lover who died in the car crash with her — had largely been erased from history. I was intrigued by the question of whose stories get to be a part of history, and why? I’m honored to have Mosaic present this strange, surprising, and sexy play — it’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever written.”

About Dodi & Diana
While commemorating the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s and Dodi Fayed’s tragic deaths, Egyptian actress Samira and her financier husband, Jason, are forced to reckon with their own complicated relationship and how their fate may already be written in the stars.

A taut and thrilling new play by award-winning playwright Kareem Fahmy, Dodi & Diana blends astrology with the allure of the royals to ask thought-provoking questions about identity, sexuality, and the power of finding your own freedom.
