Award-winning indie film starring local actors to start streaming October 27

Blending fantasy, comedy, and emotional truth, ‘The Other You’ shines a light on  the challenges women face balancing family, creativity, ambition, and identity.

The Other You, an award-winning independent feature shot entirely in Alexandria, Virginia — with a cast and crew drawn primarily from the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region — begins streaming on major platforms throughout the United States and the United Kingdom on October 27, 2026. The film stars Beth Hylton, a company member of Baltimore’s Everyman Theatre, alongside Kris Arnold, Staci Dickerson, Vivienne Sievers, Dennis Courtis, and Jules Kanarek, who is currently starring in Caroline, Or Change at the Rockville Musical Theatre.

The Other You follows Annie — a writer, wife, and mother of three — who discovers a mysterious tiny door hidden in her closet. On the other side is a seemingly perfect version of her life: a loving husband, helpful children, and even a successful writing mentor living next door. As cracks begin to appear in this dream world, Annie finds herself in a surreal battle for belonging against the one person standing in her way: an  alternate version of herself. Blending fantasy, comedy, and emotional truth, The Other You explores a universal question: What if we could trade our lives for the ones we imagine are better?

“Our film shines a light, through humor and surrealism, on the challenges women face balancing family, creativity, ambition, and identity,” says director and producer Shoshana Rosenbaum. “At a moment when audiences are embracing new stories about reinvention and self-discovery in midlife, we hope The Other You contributes meaningfully to that conversation.”

One of the film’s most distinctive achievements is its lead creative team, all women over 40: writer/producer Julie Gold, director/producer Shoshana Rosenbaum, producer Robin Noonan-Price, casting director/producer Kimberly Skyrme, cinematographer Anne Saul, and art director Alison Bauer. Most are mothers themselves, bringing lived experience and authenticity to Annie’s journey.

Many of the filmmakers first connected through Women in Film & Video-DC, demonstrating the power of regional collaboration and support for women working in the film industry. The Other You showcases the depth of talent emerging from the Mid-Atlantic’s thriving independent film community.

The Other You arrives on streaming platforms following an award-winning festival run that established it as one of the Mid-Atlantic region’s most celebrated independent films. The film premiered at DC’s historic Avalon Theatre and went on to receive:

Best Metro DC Film at the 2025 DC Independent Film Festival – Washington, DC
Narrative Feature Award at the 2025 Chesapeake Film Festival – Easton, Maryland
Best in Region at the 2025 Alexandria Film Festival – Alexandria, Virginia
