In Part 2 of a series of interviews of the cast of West Potomac High School’s School of Rock, meet Tony Lemus.
Please introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Tony Lemus and I have participated in theatre since freshman year. As each year went on, I got more involved and serious with my craft. I intend to do theatre beyond high school and for the rest of my life because I love to perform something for the community and I can always improve.
Who do you play in School of Rock?
My character is Dewey Finn and he is a man who pretends to be a substitute teacher and wants to become a rock star. He wants to be something more than he is now and he realizes that he can share his love of music with the kids in his class to make one unforgettable rock show.
Why did you choose to be a part of this show?
School of Rock has been one of my favorite movies since I was 6. Jack Black was my childhood hero/inspiration because of his energy and it seemed like he could do anything, it was so cool. Just being in the show is a dream come true because it makes me feel like a little kid again.
What’s something you want the audience to know about the production?
This show is a lot of work, both technically and performance wise, but I think it will be a very rewarding show for the audience to see and for everyone who is a part of it.
How is this cast different from casts that you’ve worked with before?
For this show being in our smaller theatre, the ensemble is very big, but the cast gets along well. The fact that a lot of us, including myself, play instruments live on stage pulls us together more as a cast because we have to spend so much time rehearsing together.
