The 2025 nominations for the 40th annual Lucille Lortel Awards for outstanding achievements in Off-Broadway theater, created in 1985 by the Off Broadway League, were announced on April 2, by actors Francis Jue and Krysta Rodriguez. The 2024-25 season featured 70 eligible Off-Broadway productions, 32 of which were recognized with a nomination in at least one category. Leading the nominations were Drag: The Musical, Three Houses, and Our Class, with a total of six each. As was previously announced, special honorees Alice Childress will be inducted onto the Playwrights’ Sidewalk, New Federal Theatre will receive the Body of Work Award, and Carol Fishman will be presented with the Edith Oliver Service to Off-Broadway Award. Representatives of the Off Broadway League, the Lucille Lortel Theatre, Actors’ Equity Association, Stage Directors & Choreographers Society, and United Scenic Artists, in addition to theater journalists, academics, and other Off-Broadway professionals, serve on the Voting Committee.
