2025 nominations for the Chita Rivera Awards for Broadway and film

Nominations for the 2025 Chita Rivera Awards, the only awards ceremony celebrating excellence in dance and choreography on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and film, were announced today at 10 am. Determined by separate nominating committees for Broadway and film, nominators considered outstanding choreography, featured dancers, and ensembles in shows and films that opened in the 2024-25 season, prior to Sunday, April 27. For the past two years, the category of Outstanding Dancer in a Broadway Show has been gender-free and has twice as many nominees as the former gendered categories; two winners will receive awards. The Off-Broadway nominations are not in competitive categories, and as was the case last year, will be chosen by the Awarding committee.

As was previously announced, Tony Award-winning theater and dance icon Ben Vereen will be honored with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony on Monday, May 19, at NYU Skirball. The evening will include Broadway performances, special guest honorees, and celebrated presenters. All proceeds benefit the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation College Scholarship Program, which awards college scholarships to talented teenagers. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded over $5 million to more than 500 dancers attending 50 of the most prestigious college dance programs in the country.
