Broadway at the National announces 2026/27 season

Season includes 5 DC premieres, a new production of 'Dirty Dancing,' the return of the Broadway phenomenon 'Hamilton,' and more.

After an evening of celebration and show- stopping performances led by acclaimed actor, singer, and producer Brandon Victor Dixon, Broadway at The National has unveiled its highly anticipated 2026/27 season – a dynamic lineup packed with bold new voices, blockbuster favorites, and must-see premieres. From fall 2026 through summer 2027, the historic National Theatre will once again serve as DC’s home for Broadway’s most exciting touring productions.

“This season represents a new chapter for Broadway at The National,” said Nick Scandalios, Chief Operating Officer of the Nederlander Organization. “With seven extraordinary titles — including major premieres, bold new productions, and the return of one of the biggest shows in Broadway history — we’re delivering a lineup that is truly bigger, broader, and more dynamic than ever before. The 2026/27 season package includes a new production of DIRTY DANCING: THE MUSICAL; the DC premieres of MAYBE HAPPY ENDING, Alicia Keys’ HELL’S KITCHEN, OPERATION MINCEMEAT: A NEW MUSICAL, and JUST IN TIME; the return of the Broadway phenomenon HAMILTON; and a new production of THE BODYGUARD. Season ticket holders will also receive immediate access to season specials including MAMMA MIA!, THE HIP HOP NUTCRACKER, WAITRESS, OH, MARY! (DC Premiere), A BEAUTIFUL NOISE: THE NEIL DIAMOND MUSICAL, THE WHO’S TOMMY, and JERSEY BOYS.

DIRTY DANCING (New Production)
September 29 – October 4, 2026

MAYBE HAPPY ENDING (DC Premiere)
October 6 – 11, 2026

Winner of 6 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Maybe Happy Ending tells the deeply human story of a chance encounter that sparks connection, adventure, and maybe even love. Helmed by Tony Award-winning director Michael Arden (Parade), Maybe Happy Ending has been called “one of the best musicals in years” (USA Today) and even “The best musical in eons!” (Observer). Alicia Keys’ HELL’S KITCHEN (DC Premiere)
November 24 – December 6, 2026

Alicia Keys’ Hell’s Kitchen, the award-winning Broadway musical created and inspired by 17-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys, takes you on the journey of Ali, a 17-year-old girl full of fire. Relatable, raw, and refreshingly fun, it’s a celebration of finding yourself, your purpose, and the people who lift you up. Hamilton is the epic saga that follows the rise of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton as he fights for honor, love, and a legacy that would shape the course of a nation. Based on Ron Chernow’s acclaimed biography and set to a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway, Hamilton has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education. Hamilton features book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. In addition to its 11 Tony Awards, it has won Grammy and Olivier Awards, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

THE BODYGUARD (New Production)
May 18 – 23, 2027

MAMMA MIA!

WAITRESS

OH, MARY! (DC Premiere)
February 9 – 21, 2027

Declared “one of the best comedies in years” by The New York Times, Oh, Mary! is about a miserable, suffocated Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Unrequited yearning, alcoholism, and suppressed desires abound in this 80-minute one-act play that finally examines the forgotten life and dreams of Mrs. Lincoln, through the lens of an idiot (playwright Cole Escola).

A BEAUTIFUL NOISE: THE NEIL DIAMOND MUSICAL

THE WHO’S TOMMY

In 1969, The Who created a rock opera that changed the course of music history. And now, it’s back in a dazzling all-new production that feels more relevant than ever.
