Coming to The Capital Fringe Festival: ‘Lady Luck is a Whore’ by Leanne Linsky

Lady Luck is a Whore is my one-woman show about my real life experiences with marriage, friendships, guns and God.

I’ve spent a lifetime watching everyone around me put on a show and now it’s my turn to take the stage! I love taking on the role of my dad, especially since my mom tells me that I’m becoming more and more like him every day. I think mom is a little concerned that I’m also playing her. But how could I not put her character in my show? She is the one who instilled me with morals, and what better character to play than a woman who spends the afternoon having lunch and playing pool with her family – in a brothel.

Leanne Linsky

When I started writing this show, I had no idea that I would one day be playing God. But her name kept coming up so I had to put her in. Yes, I said her. Why not? It’s my show. One of my favorite characters is Indian Princess. She starts out as the person to tell the story of years of father-daughter bonding via the YMCA Indian Guide Program and I loved her so much she had to come back. She is the only character that is derived from my imagination, but always says exactly what I’m thinking. She’s totally bananas and I’ll probably grow up to be just like her.

The 40-minute version of the show premiered at The Peoples Improv Theater in New York in November and returned for a run in January and again in April. The 55-minute version will be seen for the first time at Capital Fringe 2012.

The show is written and performed by Leanne Linsky. Leanne has studied with The Second City, Upright Citizens Brigade NY/LA, Improv Olympic and Magnet Theater. Director, Trish Vignola, trained as a Director at Fordham University, LaMaMa and The Second City. She has taught at Second City Chicago and was an Assistant Director for their National Touring Company.

This production is presented as a part of the 2012 Capital Fringe Festival, a program of the Washington, DC non-profit Capital Fringe.
