Young Artists of America Summer Institute Participants Learn First-Hand
What Happens Behind the Scenes When “The Show Must Go On”
Young Artists of America, the power-house organization that has been wowing area audiences with their standing room only concerts at Strathmore and their performances in the regional premiere of The Phantom of the Opera, are learning that when “The Show Must Go On” there is a whole lot of extraordinary work and effort that goes on too.
Students participating in the first ever YAA Summer Institute are entering their third week of rehearsals at the Sandy Springs Friends School, in preparation for their upcoming end of program recitals on July 6 & 7. The problem is, due to extensive tree damage and power outages resulting from the violent area storms in our area, Sandy Springs Friends School has been forced to close its campus until July 5.
While the timing of this storm could not have been worse for the YAA Summer Institute, all staff and students are showing admirable maturity and understanding that the most important issue at hand is the safety and welfare of the entire community. Like the troopers that they are, YAA Summer Institute participants from across Maryland, Virginia, and DC are not missing a beat, as they rehearse in their own homes this week in preparation for their performances on July 6 & 7.
The YAA Summer Institute Recitals will take place at the Performing Arts Center at Sandy Spring Friends School in Sandy Spring, Maryland at 7:30pm on Friday, July 6, and Saturday, July 7.
Performances will feature Italian art songs, musical theatre selections, and ensembles from the operatic repertoire. Click here to guarantee your reservation.
