The legendary award-winning singer Patti LaBelle is coming to The Kennedy Center for a special benefit concert tonight March 25, 2013. The concert for the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington kicks off the school’s 40th anniversary celebration. The school has been fortunate and honored to have other legends perform at the school in the past including Smokey Robinson, Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, Denyce Graves, and Dave Chappelle.
Patti LaBelle has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, has won two Grammy Awards, and she has 11 other Grammy nominations. The World Music Association presented her a legend award, and she is inducted into the Apollo Hall of Fame and the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame. In addition, she has won an Emmy Award, American Music Awards, Soul Train Music Awards, BET Awards, and NAACP Awards to highlight her legendary career. And she has sold over 50 million albums.
The Duke Ellington School for the Arts is achieving legendary status for its arts education and academics, helping students become better musicians, actors, and artists so they can excel in their chosen fields after high school. The school boasts an amazing 98% graduation rate and 95% of the students go on to colleges, conservatories, and universities.
