One Night with Janis Joplin is packed with classic songs like “Piece of My Heart,” “Summertime,” and “Mercedes Benz,” and our reviewer Mike Spain says it “sizzles and rocks.”

Alison Cusano plays one of America’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll originals, Janis Joplin, who died of a drug overdose in her late 20s.Cusano, who has credits across the country, is the alternate for Mary Bridget Davies in this performance. Cusano is paired with operatically trained Sabrina Elayne Carten as Blues Singer, who portrays Aretha Franklin, Bessie Smith, Odetta, Nina Simone, and Big Mama Thornton, all of whom influenced Joplin.

It was recently announced that the show will travel to Broadway in September. Joel Markowitz of  DC Theater Arts caught up in June with Playwright/Director Randy Johnson about the musical.

The Metropolitan Washington Ear provides free audio transcription to selected shows throughout Washington.

The audio-described performance of One Night with Janis Joplin will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27th, at the Kreeger Theater of Arena Stage at The Mead Center for American Theater – 1101 Sixth Street, SW, in Washington, DC.
