‘Roaring: The Musical’ has a Reading on Monday, August 5th at Takoma Station Tavern

Roaring: The Musical, a new musical by Dane Figueroa Edidi and Andrew Morrissey has its first reading this upcoming Monday, August 5th at 8 PM at Takoma Station Tavern – 6914 4th Street, NW, in Washington, DC.

Roaring: The Musical is about a Black Star in the 1920s and her family. Dealing with her dysfunction, her three children grapple with issues of sexuality, passion, gender, and how best to win a mother’s love.

Roaring: The Musical was birthed from my desire to see Trans(gender) representation on the musical stage, says Dane Figueroa Edidi. “I began the long journey of birthing this piece back in 2001. I was greatly influenced by my own life as a trans woman, and performer in a family of performers as well as the works of so many writers I held dear to me. Meeting Andrew Morrissey was such a blessing because I had finally meant a composer who wished to help me bring the piece to life. Quite frankly, I want people to see some amazing writing, acting, and directing on Monday and a story that goes beyond the constraints of formalized gender. I also want them to see a different story about Transwomen, and the African American family. I want people to leave touched, moved, and filled with a desire to see this work continue to move on to have a stage life. I also want people to begin to open a dialogue about trans representation on the stage.”
