ATMTC’s ‘Into the Woods, JR.’ to Travel to the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta;Auditions Held on 9/6 & 7

Adventure Theatre MTC’s Academy will present Into The Woods, Jr. directed by ATMTC alumnus and D.C. – favorite James Gardiner (Helen Hayes Nominee, Signature Theatre, Olney Theatre Center and Ford’s Theatre) as part of its 2014-2015 63rd Seasonon Jan. 23 and 24, 2015. Auditions for the Into The Woods, Jr. company will be held on Sept. 6 and 7 at the Adventure Theatre Academy in Wintergreen Plaza on Rockville Pike in Rockville, MD.

The award-winning Broadway production Broadway has introduced countless young audiences to musical theater, launched several careers, and will soon be released as a major motion picture by Walt Disney Pictures. With a book by James Lapine and Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, A baker and his wife who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the king’s festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever.

Into the Woods, Jr. will feature ATMTC Academy students in Grades 6 – 12 who are cast by audition. Students interested in auditioning must register online.

Prior to the public performances, the cast of INTO THE WOODS, JR. will travel to Atlanta, Georgia on MLK, Jr. weekend (Jan. 17-19, 2015) to participate in the Junior Theatre Festival.  Produced by iTheatrics and sponsored by Music Theatre International and Disney Musicals, the Junior Theater Festival is the biggest and best festival dedicated to young people and musical theatre. Held each year in Atlanta, the event unites over 4,500 young student theatre lovers from 26 states and the District of Columbia, who gather over Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend to participate in workshops, lectures, meet Broadway artists and perform highlights from their respective productions.

 Performance and Rehearsal Schedule:
Rehearsals begin Monday, Dec. 29, 2014
January 23 (7 p.m.) & 24 (3 & 7 p.m.), 2015
 All shows will be held at ATMTC in Glen Echo Park.
