History lessons typically share the tale of the victor. Perhaps, the wrong side has a lesson as well. This new play is a glimpse into the wrong side of Our Great Emancipation. During America’s civil upheaval our fledgling Country was struggling to find it’s way. The bad is a part of that story.
After a successful (but hotly contested) run and tour of, My Princess Bride, longtime DC collaborators, Joe Brack and Matty Griffiths, present a brand new play, Don’t Die in the Dark.
Our production explores J.W. Booth’s surrendering of fame for infamy, trading family for country, and his attempt to balance stage and reality.
Our team has worked hard to bring this show to the stage as the nation marks 150 years since the evil deed and measures history against the state of today’s world.
Special performances have been included in the run – April 14th – the day Booth shot the President at Ford’s Theatre – and on April 15, 1865 – the day Lincoln died – and it is no accident that this show closes on April 26th, the day Booth died after capture by the Union Army.
Two-time Helen Hayes Award nominee Bradley Foster Smith completes the cast, in the role of “Guitar,” providing music and conscience to the piece.
