U-Street, The Musical is a socio-political drama highlighting the issue of homelessness in America. While providing an empowering message to patrons, the show pushes the envelope in addressing a host of other debatable topics including race relations, inequality, religion, and the justice system.
Set on the famed U-Street corridor in Washington, DC, this wholly original production features 12 show-stopping, urban-flavored musical numbers performed by a talented and diverse cast of over 25 seasoned theater professionals.
This is the fifth in a series of community theater musicals focused on social commentary and using the arts as a conduit for social change. Written and directed by Jason A. Ellis, this production was berthed out of ongoing partnerships with the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority, the Alexandria Department of Recreation Parks and Cultural Activities, and Alexandria City Public Schools.
Proceeds from the production will help support programming for low-income kids in the City of Alexandria along with sponsoring a performing arts camp this summer for the city’s youth.
