The Bethesda Little Theatre Presents: Broadway Bios, an Original Musical Revue!
Celebrating its 36th year, the Bethesda Little Theatre will perform the original musical revue, Broadway Bios at The Writer’s Center, just two blocks from the Bethesda Metro, on April 1, 2, 3 and 8, 9, and 10th. Through song and dance, the cast of 19 will give audiences a peek into the lives of some of theatre’s greatest characters whose musicals are based on true stories. Don’t miss your chance to meet Ben Franklin, Fanny Brice, Charlie Chaplin, Eva Peron and more!
Now, let’s go into the rehearsal of “Buenos Aires” from Evita.
Evita is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most popular musicals and it has stood the test of time. Let’s see how our dancing ladies are bringing a little Argentina to Bethesda!
Q: Who is your favorite singer to play Eva Peron?
Cathy: Definitely Patti Lupone! She has every tone and move down to perfection!
Amanda: I grew up listening to the Patti LuPone soundtrack. I don’t know if it’s possible to grow up loving Broadway and not love Patti LuPone. Oddly enough, I also grew up loving Madonna, but by the time the movie came out, I was aware of her vocal limitations, so Patti all the way!
Karen: Patti LuPone.
Michelle: Madonna! I’m a millennial – she’s the one I know!
Q: What do you like best about performing this number?
Cathy: I love singing it. Oh, the dancing is fun, but I must say I love to sing with “attitude.”
Amanda: I like that I get to belt it out at the end! Also, putting on a little bit of an accent is fun.
Karen: The song is so bold and sassy, you can’t help but have fun.
Michelle: Karen picked really fun moves from a variety of dance types. It’s challenging, but a lot of fun to perform!
Q: You’re our “go-to” girls when it comes to dance numbers – is it stressful learning all the choreography?
Cathy: Yes. Let’s not try to act like it is easy. The hardest part is always remembering what comes next!
Amanda: In a word, yes. In two words, very yes. Choreo is just as much mental as physical and it can be draining. But I love it. I really love it. Karen is a great teacher and she’s made me feel like a real dancer from time to time.
Karen: I hope not! It’s nothing we can’t handle!
Michelle: It’s definitely a challenge this year, but we have an amazing choreographer and she’s going to get us through it!
Q: Broadway Bios opens this Friday, April 1st. Why do you think people should come see the show?
Cathy: The question is why wouldn’t they? This is great music, great dance, great costumes, and GREAT fun!
Amanda: The cast is really strong this year across the board. And although some of the numbers are not as familiar, the music is killer this year and it’s a really complete, fun, show.
Karen: We have an amazing, talented, and enthusiastic cast performing a wide variety of musical numbers. There’s something for everyone!
Michelle: It’s a really fun time traveling show from 1776 all the way to present times.
