AND 1! a dansical parody by ArasDance Join ArasDance for an exciting summer as they present their newest work, AND 1! a dansical parody. Yes, that is correct, a dansical parody! This will be ArasDance’s third year in a row presenting work at the Capital Fringe festival and could not think of a better place to premiere, AND 1!
Artistic Director and Choreographer, Sara Herrera, was inspired by a sassy former high school dance student, who asked, “Miss Sara, uhm yeah can you go back and repeat the count, well it wasn’t really a count, but you said, “one two shimmy and three boom bahkah spiral down to your knee…yeah I didn’t get that” Well, thank you Sassy McGee, whom we love dearly, because now we have a show!
AND 1! delves into the kookiness and extremes of a dancer’s process. Touching on the humor of missing class, the fact that we love layers, foam rollers truly are our best friends, and the pure joy of repeating the combo 20 more times for the “LAST TIME! 5, 6, 7, 8, AND 1!” Plus, company member, Matthew Rock, will debut his work that dramatically fits into the essence of our show. Ohhhh, male dancers! And did we mention we also try to sing! I mean can you even?!
AND 1! a dansical parody features dancers Mariana Barros, Jessica Bracy, Sara Herrera, Kate Page, Matthew Rock, and Brynna Shank. Light design by the remarkable Tyler Dubuc.
