World’s largest celebration of Shakespeare to mark the Bard’s birthday

The Folger Shakespeare Library invites you to #ShareYourShakespeare and join a global community of fans and fun.

The Folger Shakespeare Library is partnering with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Shakespeare Birthplace Trust for the world’s largest celebration of Shakespeare—inviting audiences all over the world to #ShareYourShakespeare on social media. New programs and activities have been created—available online at folger.edu/birthday—to inspire audience-curated performances, imaginative new art, recipes, and more for at-home birthday celebrations for the Bard, and educational resources for students and teachers. On Thursday, April 23, the Folger will also produce live digital events throughout the day.

Audiences from all over the globe are invited to Share Your Shakespeare by film or photograph, in any way they like, and upload to Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, tagging @FolgerLibrary and using the hashtag #ShareYourShakespeare. A full slate of programs and activities is available at folger.edu/birthday.

Whether performing a speech or acting out a scene with Legos, painting a picture or writing a sonnet, or baking a dish for dinner that Shakespeare might have enjoyed while wearing a ruff, there are countless ways to explore Shakespeare’s works. And when you do, you’ll join a global community of students, artists, families, teachers and professors, theatergoers, and Shakespeare enthusiasts in a virtual celebration of shared creativity, community spirit, collective resilience, and the enduring power of storytelling.
