DC Theater Arts introduces Elgin Martin as its next executive director

The veteran performer and development leader joins the local theater news outlet following a year of banner growth.

DC Theater Arts (DCTA), the region’s leading source of theater news, is pleased to announce the appointment of Elgin Martin as the organization’s next executive director. Martin brings a unique combination of skills as an experienced development professional and a veteran of DC stages to the 14-year-old arts outlet.

“Following an extensive search, DC Theater Arts is thrilled that Elgin Martin will join our organization as DC Theater Arts’ next executive director,” said Eric Colchamiro, DCTA Board Chair. “Elgin has long been a member of our DMV theater community, as an actor, a DCTA reader, and a theatergoer. It is that background, coupled with extensive professional experience in development and nonprofit organizations, which makes him the right person to lead DCTA’s next chapter.”

A lifelong resident of the DMV, Martin brings more than a decade of experience in nonprofit development and organizational leadership. Previous professional experience includes leadership roles with Manna Food Center, Food & Friends, and the Holy Cross Health Foundation, where Martin helped launch and grow new philanthropic initiatives focused on family philanthropy and donor engagement. His work has centered on strengthening fundraising infrastructure, stewarding donor relationships, and supporting sustainable organizational growth.

In addition to his professional work, Martin has served in governance and advisory capacities within the nonprofit sector. He previously served on the Board of Directors of Red Wiggler Community Farm, including as development chair, and contributed to both the development and governance committees, helping to guide strategic planning and fundraising.

In parallel with his nonprofit leadership work, Martin has been an active performer in the DC-area theater community, collaborating with organizations including Perisphere Theatre, Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, ExPats Theatre, Nu Sass Productions, Theatre Prometheus, and Ford’s Theatre. This experience has deepened his appreciation for the artistic process and informs his commitment to supporting artist-centered, mission-driven arts organizations.

“DC Theater Arts has long been a trusted platform for artists and audiences across our region,” said new Executive Director Elgin Martin. “I’m honored to step into this role, and excited to partner with our board, staff, writers, and supporters to expand DCTA’s reach and help elevate the incredible theater being made in the DMV.”

Martin’s hiring comes on the heels of a banner year for the local arts journalism nonprofit. In 2025, DC Theater Arts tripled its annual revenue, supported by grants from Humanities DC and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, as well as funding from the Renaissance Foundation. Individual giving doubled in 2025, and corporate giving increased significantly, led by a renewed partnership with TodayTix.

2025 also saw an expansion of DCTA’s board. New to the board in 2026 are Drew Lichtenberg, artistic producer and dramaturg in residence at DC’s Shakespeare Theatre Company, and Caroline Bock, novelist and co-president of the Washington Writers Publishing House, as well as a long-time DCTA writer.
