College dance concerts are always a fun place for brushing up on modern currents in the art, but spring semester programs are often a pure delight. They represent the culmination of eight months’ work for student dancers who relish the opportunity to show off what they’ve learned.

The Arts Collective Dance Company at Howard Community College will showcase their many talented dancers in four concerts at HCC’s Smith Theatre this Thursday through Saturday, March 7-9 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 10, at 3 p.m. A post-show discussion will take place after the Sunday matinee. Tickets are $10 – $15 available online. “This is our seventh season and the best program so far,” said Renée Brozic Barger, the director of the Arts Collective Dance Company.”

Among the choreographers for this showcase, Murray Louis reigns supreme with his classic modern dance. Other artists who have created works for this production include Director Renée Brozic Barger, Talani Torres, Jen Graham, Assistant Director Joan Nicolas Walker, Aysha Upchurch, and Stephanie Yezek Jolivet who has contributed numerous dances for the college and other venues.

Meanwhile, the 5th Annual Howard County Community Dance Festival Gala Concert will be held the following weekend in the same location. Back by popular demand, The Bad Boys of Dance perform a tap dance routine. B3W/Emily Berry dances, along with Karen Reedy Dance, the Arts Collective Dance Company, and a repeat of the Murray Louis classic.

The Gala Performance will take place at Howard Community College’s Smith Theater, which is located at 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, in Columbia, MD this  Saturday, March 16, at 7 p.m. For ticket information, contact the box office at (443) 518-1500. Tickets are $10, available here.
