The McLean Community Players (MCP) present Guys and Dolls, considered by many the perfect musical comedy opening July 11, 2014, in McLean’s Alden Theatre. Guys and Dolls has music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, and is based on a story and characters of Damon Runyon. The show ran for 1,200 performances when it opened on Broadway and won multiple Tony Awards. Veteran director Shelly Horn leads an award-winning cast and crew for this show, which has had many revivals on Broadway and in London. Guys and Dolls opens July 11th and runs weekends through July 27th, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City in the 1950s, Guys and Dolls follows the fortunes of a group of small-time gamblers, including Nathan Detroit, who runs an infamous floating crap game, and Sky Masterson, who falls in love with Sarah Brown, a beautiful, but strait-laced, Salvation Army worker. The score for Guys and Dolls contains some of the most beloved songs in Broadway history including “Luck Be a Lady” and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat.”

Guys and Dolls is presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). Through a cooperative agreement with The Metropolitan Washington Ear, along with the support of the Alden Theatre, audio description services for individuals with vision challenges will be offered at the July 26th performance.
