In Part 3 of a series of interviews with the Director and cast of Peace Mountain Theatre Company‘s production of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, meet Chris Daileader.
Joel: Please introduce yourself and tell readers where they may have seen you perform on local stages.
Chris: My name is Chris Daileader, and I’m an actor, singer, comedian, and videographer. I recently finished Salvation Road at Capital Fringe. I haven’t done a show up in Maryland in a while, but my favorite experience here so far has been The Pillowman at Silver Spring Stage, for which I won the WATCH Award for Outstanding Featured Actor. I also played Gerald in An Inspector Calls at Rockville Little Theatre, directed by Laurie Freed.
Why did you want to appear in this production of All My Sons?
Well, I was actually called in as a replacement! A previous actor had to drop and I’d worked with Laurie before, so I was happy to go right from Fringe to Peace Mountain.
Tell us about who you play in the show.
I play Frank Lubey, who is this lucky guy, maybe a bit of an idiot, who has had fortune smiling on him all his life. Frank and his wife are paragons of the American Dream — a haberdasher working hard enough to pay off his house, raise three kids, and live in a very nice area — at a young age! I’m also into astrology.
Why is this show relevant for today’s theatregoers?
It’s the human condition. Provision, struggle, envy, self-centeredness, ruthlessness…all of these are foci in American life We see people who will do anything, anything, for success and to provide and to be happy.
And sometimes we talk ourselves into breaking our own codes just to get by.
What stands out most to you about All My Sons?
The timelessness of the characters. Even as technologies change, we can see these people living today. Their industriousness is ingrained in American culture and we all read about similar scandals and consequences on a daily basis as a result of that industrious nature and obsession with monetary success.
What do you want audiences to take away with them after seeing All My Sons?
I want them to see themselves in these characters. Learn more about their own lives from the ones Arthur Miller has created.
All My Sons plays from Peace Mountain Theatre Company performing at Congregation Har Shalom – 11510 Falls Road, in Potomac, MD. For tickets, call (301) 299-7087, or purchase them online.
